Job Description

Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in the West Midlands for a Payroll and Finance Officer to join the team on a temporary basis. The postholder will manage payroll processes and ensure accurate financial records, maintaining compliance with regulations and providing essential financial support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll balancing and reconciliation processes, investigating and resolving discrepancies to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Process and validate payroll transactions, including BACS payments, statutory deductions, manual salary payments and third-party deductions.
  • Maintain accurate financial and payroll records, supporting audits, year-end processes, budgetary control, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Provide advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on payroll, pensions, statutory requirements and financial processes, while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidate Criteria

  • Previous experience of payroll processing, including payroll balancing, reconciliation and investigating discrepancies.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex, time-critical workloads and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel and IT skills, with experience using payroll and financial systems; experience of ResourceLink and/or Unit4 Business World would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge or experience of payroll and pensions administration, statutory requirements and financial controls.
