Cooper Parry Finance recruitment are delighted to be supporting our client, an ambitious and expanding organisation, to appoint a newly created Payroll & Timewriting Lead role. Reporting directly to the HR Director, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and wants to play a key role in establishing and developing best practice processes.
This position would suit someone with strong experience managing complex payrolls, ideally across multiple employee groups and pay structures. You'll be supported by two direct reports and will take ownership of payroll and timekeeping operations while helping drive efficiencies and continuous improvement across the business.

The Opportunity
As Payroll & Timewriting Lead, you will take responsibility for the end-to-end payroll and timekeeping function, ensuring employees are paid accurately, compliantly and on time.
Working closely with HR, Finance, Commercial and operational teams, you'll provide expertise across payroll legislation, workforce data, compliance and process improvement whilst leading and developing a small team.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the end-to-end payroll process across various employee groups
- Managing payroll compliance, including HMRC, pension and statutory requirements
- Overseeing time and attendance systems and workforce data accuracy
- Managing relationships with external payroll providers
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of two
- Supporting commercial and finance teams with payroll reconciliations and queries
- Producing payroll and workforce reporting for senior leadership
- Driving process improvements, system enhancements and operational efficiencies
- Supporting audits and ensuring robust governance and compliance standards
Background & Experience
Are you an experienced Payroll Manager or similar looking for an opportunity to build and shape a function within a growing business?
We're keen to speak with individuals who can demonstrate:
- Significant payroll leadership experience or experience operating in a Senior Payroll Position
- Experience managing complex payroll environments
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pension administration
- Experience managing time and attendance systems
- The ability to interpret and communicate complex pay structures and payroll rules
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build relationships across the business
- Previous experience coaching, developing or managing team members
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving capability

Experience within a multi-site, operational, engineering, offshore or shift-based environment would be advantageous.
