Payroll Assistant – Remote – Maternity Cover
Due to extensive growth and acquisitions, Fusion Consulting Group are looking to recruit a Payroll Assistant to work closely with our Payroll and HR Manager. This will be a fixed term contract of about nine months – though this may be subject to change.
This role is fully remote.
The group has several subsidiaries ranging from Tax, Accounting, Legal, Financial Services and Recruitment. Our mission is to disrupt the disjointed Professional Services space.
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly organised, detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Assistant to join our remote-working team on a contractual basis.
The successful candidate will provide end-to-end payroll and administrative support across a portfolio of clients, ensuring payroll is processed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with HMRC, pension and other statutory requirements.
This is a varied role that combines payroll processing, PAYE and CIS administration, pension compliance, client communication, credit control and general business administration. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing multiple clients, high-volume inboxes and competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with colleagues and Client Managers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
