Job Title: Payroll Assistant

Location: Billingham

Reporting To: Payroll Manager / Finance Manager

Working Hours: Flexible Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (or as agreed)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to join our growing team in Billingham. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining accurate records, and supporting employees with payroll-related queries.

Working closely with the Payroll and Finance teams, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll is processed accurately and efficiently while providing excellent administrative support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and processing of weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data.
  • Process timesheets, expenses, overtime, and absence records.
  • Support the administration of pensions, statutory payments, and other payroll deductions.
  • Respond to payroll-related queries from employees in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist with payroll reporting and reconciliation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and company policies.
  • Support Finance and Operations teams with general administrative tasks as required.
  • Assist with audits and payroll documentation when needed.
  • Liaise with payroll provider.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Be confident working with numbers and payroll data.
  • Have strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Have previous payroll, finance, or administration experience (preferred but not essential).
