Payroll & Benefits Administrator

We have an exciting opportunity to join the business in the role of Payroll & Benefits Administrator. You will play a key role within our small dedicated Finance team based at our Head Office in Tamworth town centre.

The role reports directly into our Deputy CEO / Head of Finance and is being offered on a part-time basis, 24 hours per week across 4 days.

You will manage all aspects of our 4-weekly payroll for approximately 220 colleagues as well as managing a small monthly payroll. You will also be responsible for benefits administration, in particular in relation to pensions and will take the lead in this area. You will have a great opportunity to contribute to business improvement through reviewing and implementing changes to our current processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll end to end, ensuring accuracy and timely payments
  • Check and validate timesheets, overtime, and additional payments
  • Calculate salaries, overtime, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP) and deductions
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including starters, leavers, and changes
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, including PAYE, National Insurance, and Pension
  • Compliance with auto-enrolment pension processes
  • Handle payroll and benefits queries from colleagues
  • Year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds where applicable
  • Reconcile payroll reports and investigate discrepancies
  • Support payroll audits and any reporting requirements
  • Prepare and export payroll data using MS Excel
  • Processing payroll on Sage Payroll
  • To proactively look for opportunities to make process improvements to drive efficiency and take steps to implement
  • Processing of other benefits and related administration e.g. Voluntary Health Cash Plan
  • To be flexible to provide support across the wider finance team as required

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience of processing payroll
  • Strong payroll knowledge
  • Strong IT Skills including Excel
  • Experience with payroll / HRIS systems and reporting

Previous experience of using Sage Payroll is desirable but not essential as is experience of implementing process improvements.
