About The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Clerk to join our well-established client’s busy Payroll Bureau team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is adept at managing multiple client payrolls simultaneously. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing end-to-end payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. You will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of customer service, resolving payroll queries, and ensuring all statutory and regulatory obligations are met. This position provides a chance to develop your career within a dynamic and supportive team, contributing to the smooth operation of the payroll function for a diverse portfolio of clients.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in payroll processing, preferably within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau environment. A solid understanding of end-to-end payroll procedures, current payroll legislation, and RTI submissions is essential. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under strict deadlines. Relevant qualifications such as CIPP, AAT, or payroll-specific certifications are advantageous but not mandatory. Proficiency in payroll software such as BrightPay, Sage 50 Payroll, Xero Payroll, Moneysoft, Iris Payroll, Staffology, or QuickBooks Payroll is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues are also important for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Processing end-to-end weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for a diverse client portfolio, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Managing multiple payrolls simultaneously while meeting all deadlines and compliance requirements.
  • Handling payroll administration tasks such as processing starters, leavers, P45s, and P60s.
  • Completing RTI submissions accurately and on time to HMRC, ensuring compliance with current legislation.
  • Administering auto-enrolment pensions, including pension uploads for providers such as NEST, People's Pension, and Aviva.
  • Calculating statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, holiday pay, student loans, and other deductions.
  • Processing Attachment of Earnings Orders, Court Orders, and CIS deductions where applicable.
  • Performing payroll reconciliations and year-end procedures to ensure data integrity.
  • Resolving payroll-related queries promptly and liaising directly with clients and HMRC to provide excellent customer service.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential payroll records, ensuring GDPR compliance at all times.
  • Utilizing payroll software efficiently to process payrolls accurately and streamline operations.
