Job Title: Payroll & Finance Operations Manager
Location: Cheltenham
Hybrid: Yes - 3 days office & 2 days from home
Type: Permanent & Full-Time
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll & Finance Operations Manager to join a growing, professional services organisation based in Cheltenham.
This is a broad and influential role, combining responsibility for a complex internal payroll with leadership of a small finance operations team. You’ll also play a key role in an upcoming payroll and HR systems transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely delivery
- Act as the payroll SME for a major HR and payroll system implementation
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation, pensions and statutory requirements
- Oversee payroll reporting, reconciliations and submissions
- Manage and develop a small team across Payroll and Finance Operations
- Oversee key finance operations, including VAT, banking, cash management and balance sheet reconciliations
- Drive process improvements, automation and stronger financial controls
- Work closely with HR, IT and senior stakeholders on systems and transformation projects

You’ll Ideally Have:
- Experience managing an in-house payroll of approximately 500–1,000 employees
- Strong UK payroll legislation, compliance and pensions knowledge
- Previous experience supporting or leading a payroll/HR system implementation
- Experience managing and developing a team
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- A polished and professional approach
- A proactive mindset and passion for process improvement and transformation
