This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong UK payroll experience who enjoys working across both payroll and HR administration in a busy operational environment.

The Role

Reporting to the HR Manager, you will take responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, while providing comprehensive HR administration across the employee lifecycle.

You will work closely with HR, Finance, managers and site teams, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time, records are maintained accurately, and payroll and HR processes remain compliant with UK legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end UK payroll process, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Process variable pay including overtime, shift premiums, bonuses, deductions and timesheet data.
  • Manage starters, leavers and changes to pay, hours and contractual arrangements.
  • Calculate and administer statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, ShPP and SAP.
  • Ensure holiday pay and final payments are calculated accurately.
  • Manage PAYE, National Insurance, student loans and attachment of earnings.
  • Administer workplace pensions, including auto-enrolment, contributions, opt-outs and re-enrolment.
  • Complete payroll reconciliations and prepare reports for Finance.
  • Support year-end processes including P60s and P11D reporting.
  • Act as a key point of contact for employee payroll queries.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records across HR and payroll systems.
  • Prepare contracts, variation letters and other HR documentation.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, pre-employment and right-to-work checks.
  • Monitor absence and holiday records and provide relevant reports.
  • Support the HR Manager with employee relations administration.
  • Assist with benefits administration and the annual pay review process.
  • Produce HR and payroll reports including headcount, absence and turnover data.
  • Support internal and external audits and contribute to improving HR and payroll processes.
  • Ensure all payroll and HR activity complies with relevant UK legislation and UK GDPR.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
