About The Role
We are supporting a highly established and reputable accountancy practice located in Canterbury in their search for a Payroll Manager. This is a pivotal role within a fast-growing practice, offering the opportunity to lead a large and successful payroll department. The Payroll Manager will oversee the delivery of payroll services to a diverse portfolio of owner-managed businesses, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. The role involves managing and developing a team of payroll professionals, fostering a collaborative environment, and contributing to the strategic growth of the payroll department. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess substantial payroll experience, preferably within an accountancy practice, payroll bureau, or a client-focused environment. A proven track record of overseeing or supporting a payroll team is essential, demonstrating leadership and mentorship capabilities. Strong technical payroll knowledge, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of current legislation, is required to ensure compliance and accuracy. The candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple deadlines efficiently. Excellent communication skills are vital for building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike. A proactive approach, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous professional development will ensure success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Manage a varied portfolio of weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls, ensuring they are processed accurately and on time.
- Oversee, support, and develop members of the payroll team, reviewing their work and providing guidance where required.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and responding to payroll queries in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with current payroll legislation and manage all associated reporting and submissions.
- Oversee workplace pension and auto-enrollment requirements, including assessments and submissions.
- Support the development of efficient systems and processes across the department to enhance productivity and accuracy.
- Work closely with partners and senior management to support the continued growth of the payroll service offering.
