About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our Accounts Team. This pivotal role involves taking full responsibility for the accurate processing of payroll on a monthly basis, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The Payroll Manager will oversee all payroll-related activities, including the preparation and submission of filings with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and pension providers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of payroll procedures, accounting principles, and confidentiality protocols. This role requires an individual who can work independently under tight deadlines, communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels, and handle sensitive information with discretion. The position offers a flexible working arrangement, including part-time applications, and provides an opportunity to contribute to the efficient financial management of a prestigious academic institution.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have proven experience in payroll management, ideally within an academic or similar organizational setting. A solid understanding of payroll legislation, pension schemes, and HMRC regulations is essential. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. A background in accounting or finance, along with proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office applications, is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to handling confidential information are also required. Relevant qualifications such as a payroll certification or accounting qualification will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Process monthly payroll accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely payments to staff and contractors.
- Maintain and update payroll records, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
- Prepare and submit all necessary filings with HMRC, including Real Time Information (RTI) reports and year-end submissions.
- Manage pension contributions and liaise with pension providers to ensure compliance and accurate deductions.
- Respond to payroll-related queries from staff and management promptly and professionally.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and produce reports for management review.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and implement necessary adjustments to processes.
- Assist with audits and ensure all payroll activities adhere to internal controls and policies.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
