About The Role

As a Payroll Manager based in Preston, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the complete payroll process for a well-established retail business. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and internal policies. You will manage payroll systems, resolve employee and stakeholder queries, and collaborate with finance and HR teams to ensure seamless operations. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills and a thorough understanding of payroll legislation, who can work independently and efficiently in a dynamic environment. Your expertise will contribute to the smooth functioning of payroll activities, supporting the company’s commitment to employee satisfaction and operational excellence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proven experience in payroll management, preferably within the retail or similar sectors.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems, with strong technical skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of payroll legislation, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll data.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle complex payroll issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with employees, management, and external authorities.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or certifications in payroll or HR management are desirable.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Payroll Manager include:

  • Managing end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring all payments are accurate and on time.
  • Maintaining and updating payroll systems to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Addressing and resolving payroll-related queries from employees and stakeholders promptly and professionally.
  • Preparing and submitting payroll reports to relevant authorities in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Collaborating with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting and reconciliation.
  • Monitoring changes in payroll legislation and implementing necessary updates to policies and procedures.
  • Providing guidance and support to team members on payroll processes and compliance matters.
  • Managing payroll audits, ensuring proper documentation, and maintaining audit readiness.
