Payroll Manager
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 - FTE (pro rata for 4 days per week)
Location: Burnley
We're working exclusively with a well-established and growing business with a strong reputation in its sector based in Burnley. The business has ambitious growth plans to double turnover over the next five years. As part of this growth journey, they are investing in their finance function and are now looking to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of payroll and support the wider development of the department.
The Role
This is a standalone Payroll Manager position responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of payroll for a workforce of <500 employees. You'll take full ownership of the payroll process end-to-end, while also playing a key role in helping to build out processes and controls as the finance function matures.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys autonomy and wants genuine input into how a growing business shapes its finance and payroll operations going forward.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
