About The Role

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Manager to join Portfolio Payroll Limited on a permanent basis. This pivotal role is designed for a professional who is passionate about payroll operations, compliance, and team leadership. As Payroll Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end payroll process for a large and diverse client portfolio, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to all legislative requirements. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience in payroll management, with a proven track record of leading and developing teams. A comprehensive understanding of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and payroll software systems is essential. Relevant professional qualifications such as CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) or equivalent are highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively liaise with internal teams and clients. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with attention to detail, are critical for success in this role. The candidate should demonstrate leadership qualities, adaptability, and a proactive approach to managing payroll operations within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a large employee base, ensuring all payments are made correctly and on schedule.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the payroll team, setting clear objectives and providing ongoing coaching and support.
  • Establish individual performance goals, conduct regular reviews, and implement development plans to enhance team capabilities.
  • Manage workload distribution within the team, identify training needs, and facilitate appropriate training initiatives.
  • Address and resolve performance concerns through regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll legislation deadlines and maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes affecting payroll processing.
  • Drive continuous improvements in payroll processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of payroll customer service, ensuring client and employee queries are handled professionally and promptly.
  • Collaborate with finance, HR, and other departments to ensure seamless payroll operations and reporting.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard payroll data and ensure confidentiality and data integrity.
