Payroll Manager (sole role)

Location: London (Hybrid)

Salary: £45,000-50,000

Contract: 9-12 Month FTC

We're currently recruiting for an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of a busy in-house payroll function supporting weekly and monthly payroll runs. This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys working in a varied role in a small team.

Working closely with Finance and HR, you'll oversee the complete payroll lifecycle while ensuring compliance with UK legislation, maintaining accurate employee records and supporting wider business planning through payroll reporting and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing end-to-end weekly and monthly payrolls across multiple payrolls and varied worker populations.
  • Administering payroll changes including starters, leavers, statutory payments, pensions, expenses and year-end processes.
  • Preparing payroll journals, reconciliations, reporting and financial recharges to support wider finance activities.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for payroll-related queries, providing advice to employees, managers and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintaining payroll compliance, overseeing HMRC submissions and ensuring payroll processes remain aligned with current legislation.
  • Supporting workforce scheduling and employee administration, ensuring payroll and rostering data remains accurate and up to date.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and reporting across the function.

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing an in-house payroll function from start to finish.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, pensions, statutory payments and HMRC requirements.
  • Experience processing payroll for multiple contract types within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent Excel and data analysis skills with the ability to produce accurate payroll reporting.
  • A highly organised approach with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
