Payroll Manager
Is your strength keeping a large payroll steady while you make it better?
I'm supporting a large and growing service provider, employing around 2,000 people, in appointing an experienced Payroll Manager on a 12-month fixed term contract.
Your first priority is continuity: everyone paid correctly and on time, every pay day. Once that is secure, you'll look closely at how payroll works today and lead practical improvements to its systems, processes and controls. You'll report into Finance and lead a payroll team of four, in an organisation going through positive change under a new leadership team.
The 12 months at a glance
- Stabilise - take ownership of payroll and secure accurate, on-time pay
- Strengthen - tighten controls and reconciliations; build the team's confidence and capability
- Improve - identify where systems and processes can work better and make clear recommendations to senior leaders

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
