HRC Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with our progressive client to recruit an experienced Payroll Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation and take ownership of a complex, high-volume payroll function. Reporting to the Head of HR, you will lead a dedicated payroll team, ensuring the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of payroll services across a diverse workforce.
The Role
As Payroll Manager, you will oversee payroll operations for more than 850 employees, managing monthly and two-weekly payrolls, both costed and non-costed, as well as a CIS payroll for subcontractors. You'll play a key role in ensuring payroll compliance, driving process improvements and partnering closely with HR and Finance to deliver an exceptional payroll service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Payroll team, ensuring a high-performing and customer-focused service.
- Manage the end-to-end processing of monthly and two-weekly payrolls for 850+ employees.
- Oversee CIS payroll, ensuring accurate verification, deductions and submissions.
- Ensure payroll data is accurate, including new starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, bonuses, allowances and statutory payments.
- Review and approve payrolls prior to final sign-off.
- Maintain payroll schedules and ensure all deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Ensure full compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and CIS regulations.
- Manage statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP.
- Complete HMRC submissions and maintain accurate payroll records for audit purposes.
- Oversee payroll systems, working with software providers to resolve issues and implement improvements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency and enhance accuracy.
- Support payroll system upgrades, testing and integration with HR and Finance systems.
- Provide expert guidance to employees on payroll queries, pensions, benefits and deductions.
- Partner closely with HR on onboarding, salary changes and employee benefits.
- Support month-end and year-end processes, payroll reconciliations and reporting.
- Prepare payroll cost analysis, forecasts and reports for senior leadership.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of payroll data across all systems.

About You
We're looking for an experienced payroll professional with a proven track record of managing high-volume, multi-frequency payrolls in a fast-paced environment.

You'll bring:
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC regulations and the CIS Scheme.
- A CIPP qualification (preferred).
- Experience leading and developing a payroll team.
- Strong understanding of integrated HR and Finance systems.
- Advanced payroll software knowledge and excellent Excel skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail with exceptional organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- A professional, discreet approach when handling confidential information.
