About The Role

The Payroll Officer role at Hays Accounts and Finance offers an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and experienced payroll professional to join a dynamic team. Operating within a fast-paced environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processes across multiple business units. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and company policies. The Payroll Officer will work closely with HR, finance, and external stakeholders to streamline payroll operations, resolve queries efficiently, and support payroll-related projects. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative setting and is committed to maintaining high standards of accuracy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess a minimum of 2 years’ payroll experience within a medium to large organization. A strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory payments, and pension obligations is essential. Proficiency in payroll, HR, and Time & Attendance systems is highly desirable, along with excellent Microsoft Excel skills and general IT literacy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and a professional, confidential approach to work. Effective communication skills and the capacity to collaborate across teams are vital. Candidates should also be adaptable, proactive, and capable of working independently in a fast-changing environment. Desirable experience includes familiarity with payroll software platforms, exposure to manufacturing or FMCG sectors, and knowledge of employment legislation and employee terms and conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and processing weekly and monthly payrolls across multiple entities to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Administering statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, and SPP in compliance with current legislation.
  • Managing payroll-related benefits and deductions, including pensions and employee benefit schemes.
  • Serving as a key point of contact for payroll queries, providing timely and professional resolution.
  • Producing detailed payroll reports for finance reconciliations and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting pension administration and auto-enrolment processes to ensure compliance.
  • Maintaining accurate Time & Attendance records, including absences, leave, and shift schedules.
  • Processing agency worker timesheets and updating payroll data accordingly.
  • Assisting with annual payroll activities such as salary reviews, year-end submissions, and audits.
  • Liaising with external payroll providers, auditors, and benefit providers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Supporting payroll process improvements and maintaining standard operating procedures.
  • Staying informed about changes in payroll legislation and compliance requirements to ensure ongoing adherence.
