Qualifications

• Previous experience in a payroll-focused role, ideally within an accountancy practice or professional services sector
• Strong understanding of UK payroll processes, including PAYE and National Insurance contributions
• Knowledge of statutory payroll requirements and relevant legislation
• Experience processing multiple payrolls or managing a varied client portfolio is advantageous
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail
• High level of accuracy and ability to identify discrepancies effectively
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Confidence in dealing directly with clients and handling payroll-related inquiries
• Proficiency in IT, especially Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
• Experience using payroll software and accounting systems
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
• Proactive, reliable, and committed to delivering high-quality work
• Professional and client-focused approach with a commitment to confidentiality

Responsibilities

• Process multiple client payrolls accurately and within established deadlines
• Manage payroll from initial data collection through to final submission and reporting
• Review payroll data and calculations, resolving any discrepancies promptly
• Calculate statutory payments, deductions, adjustments, and benefits
• Handle payroll amendments such as starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, and overtime
• Prepare and distribute payslips and relevant payroll documentation to clients
• Complete year-end payroll processes, including P60s and P11D submissions where applicable
• Ensure RTI returns are submitted accurately and on time to HMRC
• Communicate with HMRC regarding PAYE, National Insurance, and related payroll matters
• Respond professionally to client payroll queries, providing clear guidance and support
• Stay updated on changes to payroll legislation and ensure compliance across processes
• Maintain accurate, confidential payroll records in line with data protection policies
• Coordinate effectively with clients and internal teams to ensure timely receipt of payroll information
• Identify payroll issues and escalate complex matters appropriately
• Support the wider payroll team during busy periods and contribute to process improvements
• Deliver a high standard of service to clients at all times
