International Payroll Manager at Global Law Firm
Our client is a growing and dynamic international law firm with offices across EMEA, APAC, and a growing presence in the US. Due to this growth across the firm and their opening of new international offices they are looking to strengthen their Payroll team and have created an additional senior role to focus on managing the payrolls across their non-UK offices. This is a hybrid role (3 days in the office), ideally based in their London office.
What they are looking for
- A technically skilled Payroll Specialist with solid experience managing and overseeing multi-office, multinational payrolls including a strong familiarity with working with US payroll.
Key duties include;
- Support the Global Head Payroll with the delivery of end-to-end payroll processing across multiple countries (particularly the US).
- Make sure all payrolls are processed accurately, in accordance with local regulations.
- Review payroll outputs from the international offices, creating reconciliations and exception reports to identify and resolve issues.
- Support monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll activities internationally.
- Act as an escalation point for complex payroll issues, ensuring that they are resolved accurately, sensitively and within agreed timescales.
- Act as the subject matter expertise on US payroll processing and compliance requirements as well as supporting payroll activities across federal, state and local tax jurisdictions, with demonstrable experience of US multi-state payroll processing.
- Assist with payroll implications arising from employee mobility, including tax equalisation, shadow payrolls, split payrolls and social security considerations.
- Work closely with the wider HR team as well as the Finance, Tax and Global Mobility teams to ensure payroll impacts are correctly managed.
- Identify risks associated with employee global mobility and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Support implementation of new payroll systems, country rollouts and process enhancements.
- Develop reporting and analytics to help improve payroll accuracy and operational performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
