About The Role
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Payroll Officer to join our team. In this vital role, you will oversee the entire payroll process for over 210 employees, ensuring accurate and timely salary payments. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for managing payroll through Sage 50 Payroll, processing starters and leavers, and handling pension administration. Your expertise will ensure compliance with statutory requirements such as PAYE, National Insurance, SSP, SMP, and RTI submissions. The Payroll Officer will also provide support to the broader finance team by assisting with invoice processing, BACS payments, and general financial administration, particularly during peak periods or staff absences. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in payroll administration, with a solid understanding of Sage 50 Payroll software. A minimum of two years' experience working within a finance environment is essential, along with a strong grasp of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pension schemes. You should be highly organized, numerate, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively. A GCSE in Mathematics or an equivalent qualification is required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality are also crucial to success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end payroll process for over 210 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all statutory requirements.
- Process monthly payroll through Sage 50 Payroll, including starters, leavers, and payroll amendments.
- Administer pension schemes, SSP, SMP, PAYE, and National Insurance contributions.
- Prepare and submit RTI returns to HMRC in accordance with deadlines.
- Resolve payroll-related queries from staff and external stakeholders promptly and professionally.
- Assist with the administration of employee benefits and pension contributions.
- Support the wider finance team by processing invoices, BACS payments, and performing financial administrative duties as required.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure data confidentiality at all times.
- Stay updated with changes in payroll legislation and HMRC regulations, implementing necessary adjustments.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll and finance functions to enhance efficiency and compliance.
