About The Role

Hays Accounts and Finance are excited to support a globally recognized accounting firm in their search for a Senior Payroll Specialist. This role is based in their Manchester office with a flexible work arrangement requiring presence in the office three days per week. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3-5 years of UK payroll experience, with a strong understanding of payroll processes within a large bureau, accountancy firm, or shared service environment. Proven expertise in processing end-to-end payroll, supporting clients with queries, and delivering operational excellence is essential. The candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills, stakeholder management abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. A good grasp of relevant payroll legislation, compliance standards, and payroll software systems is required. Professional certifications related to payroll or finance would be advantageous but are not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior payroll expert within a large, dynamic team, providing guidance and support to junior team members.
  • Manage end-to-end processing of UK payroll for a diverse client portfolio, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support clients with payroll-related queries, providing expert advice and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, stakeholders, payroll vendors, and external partners to ensure seamless payroll operations.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant payroll legislation, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and technology integration to enhance payroll efficiency.
  • Ensure payroll deadlines are met and that all payroll data is accurately recorded and maintained.
  • Assist with payroll audits and reporting, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
