Are you an experienced payroll specialist with a track record of diagnosing complex pay and system issues?
Can you trace data across HR, time and attendance, absence and payroll systems to identify the root cause of errors?
Are you comfortable working at pace to improve processes in a complex, multi-site organisation?
MacGregor Black is partnering with a confidential, large-scale organisation to appoint a Payroll Systems & Process Consultant for an urgent six-month assignment.
You will review the organisation’s payroll systems and processes, investigate issues affecting variable pay, shift allowances and overtime, and identify practical improvements. Working closely with Payroll, HR Shared Services and other key stakeholders, you will help establish where issues arise and how to prevent them recurring.

Key responsibilities
- Audit the flow of employee and pay data between HR, absence, time and attendance, and payroll systems.
- Investigate current system and integration issues, identifying root causes wherever possible.
- Review the end-to-end employee lifecycle, including starters, leavers, job changes and pay increases.
- Assess how variable pay, overtime and shift allowances are captured, approved and processed.
- Review responsibilities and handovers between HR Shared Services and Payroll.
- Improve the new-starter process, reducing delays and manual intervention.
- Recommend and support practical changes to systems, controls and ways of working.

What we’re looking for
- Significant experience in payroll operations, payroll systems or payroll process improvement.
- A proven ability to investigate pay discrepancies and troubleshoot system integrations.
- Strong knowledge of time and attendance data, particularly variable pay, overtime and shift allowances.
- Experience reviewing end-to-end payroll processes and translating findings into workable solutions.
- The ability to work independently, manage stakeholders and deliver at pace.
- Availability to start as soon as possible.
- Experience in a large, multi-site or operational workforce would be particularly relevant.
