Role Overview

Do you want to make a difference with the work you do? Join us as a SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Operator.

We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated SMT Operator to join our state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing facility in Poole (soon to be Bournemouth). You will be responsible for running and maintaining our automated SMT assembly lines, ensuring all products are built to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) machinery to assemble electronic circuits
  • Load components, operate pick-and-place machines and reflow ovens, and ensure high-quality production of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
  • Component Management: Load reels, feeders, and trays with surface mount components accurately based on specifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct visual inspections and use Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) to verify component placement and solder quality.
  • Documentation: Work from engineering drawings, assembly diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Maintenance: Perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery and troubleshoot any placement issues.
  • Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to IPC-A-610 standards and strict ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) safety guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience operating and setting up SMT pick-and-place machines and associated equipment is highly preferred.
  • General electronics assembly background and familiarity with PCB components.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and BOMs.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail for handling miniature electronic components.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards is a significant advantage.
  • Rework skills of SMT components would be a benefit.
