Role Description
The Primary PE Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Halifax, responsible for planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate PE lessons in line with school curriculum requirements. The specialist will lead a variety of sports and physical activities, promote inclusive participation, and support pupils in developing fitness, coordination, teamwork, and confidence.

The role also involves supporting breakfast, lunch, and after-school clubs, contributing to PPA cover, and collaborating with teaching staff to align PE provision with wider school goals.
The PE Specialist is expected to uphold high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and professional conduct while building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
Qualifications
- Strong practical expertise in primary PE delivery, including planning and teaching a range of sports and physical activities tailored to different ages and abilities.
- Proven ability to create inclusive, engaging sessions that develop pupils’ fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and positive attitudes toward physical activity.
- Experience working in school or youth settings, with a sound understanding of behaviour management, safeguarding responsibilities, and child wellbeing.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents, and external partners.
- Relevant qualifications in sport, physical education, coaching, or a related field (e.g., degree, Level 2/3 coaching awards, or equivalent certification).
- Up-to-date first aid training and a willingness to undertake ongoing professional development and CPD offered by Edstart.
- Ability to organize sessions and equipment efficiently, manage time across curriculum lessons and clubs, and adapt plans to meet diverse learner needs.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) and commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all children.
- Enthusiasm for sport and education, reliability in a school-based timetable, and readiness to contribute to Edstart’s wider programs and initiatives.
