Paediatrician – Neurodevelopmental Assessments
Location: Bury St Edmunds and/or Ely
Working pattern: Ad hoc / sessional – flexible around your existing role

About the role
Our client is looking to expand its clinical team and is seeking an experienced Paediatrician to undertake face-to-face assessments of children and young people across our clinics in Bury St Edmunds and Ely.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Paediatrician looking for flexible, ad hoc clinical work that can be fitted around an existing NHS, private or portfolio role. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team supporting children and young people presenting with developmental, behavioural and neurodevelopmental concerns. The role will involve gathering a comprehensive developmental and medical history, undertaking appropriate clinical assessment and contributing your specialist paediatric expertise to the wider diagnostic formulation.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct face-to-face paediatric assessments of children and young people.
- Take comprehensive developmental, medical, family and social histories.
- Explore developmental milestones, behavioural presentation, communication, social interaction, emotional wellbeing and functioning across home and educational environments.
- Undertake appropriate physical and developmental examinations where clinically indicated.
- Review relevant information from parents/carers, schools and other professionals.
- Consider differential diagnoses and identify any medical, developmental or safeguarding concerns requiring further investigation or referral.
- Contribute to neurodevelopmental assessments, particularly where paediatric input is clinically appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team, which may include psychiatrists, psychologists and speech & language therapists.
- Contribute to formulation and diagnostic decision-making within your professional scope of practice.
- Provide clear clinical recommendations and appropriate onward referrals where required.
- Produce high-quality, timely clinical documentation and reports.
- Communicate assessment findings sensitively and clearly with children, young people and their families.
- Work in accordance with relevant professional standards, NICE guidance, safeguarding requirements and NAFS Health clinical governance procedures.

About you
We are looking for a Paediatrician who is:
- GMC registered with a licence to practise.
- Experienced in assessing children and young people.
- Confident undertaking developmental and paediatric assessments.
- Comfortable working with children presenting with developmental, behavioural and neurodevelopmental concerns.
- Able to consider the wider clinical picture and differential diagnoses.
- Experienced in working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Able to communicate effectively with children, parents/carers and fellow professionals.
- Compassionate, professional and child-centred in their approach.
- Able to work independently while maintaining excellent clinical governance and documentation standards.

Desirable experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Community paediatrics.
- Developmental paediatrics.
- Neurodevelopmental assessment.
- Autism assessment.
- ADHD assessment.
- Developmental delay and learning difficulties.
- Behavioural or emotional difficulties in children and young people.
- Safeguarding and child protection.
- Working alongside psychology, psychiatry and speech & language therapy colleagues.
