Purpose of Job
(Overall Description of the Post within the Team and Organisation)
Bytes is a CREST-certified penetration testing organisation with ambitious growth and expansion plans. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our testing team and work with a wide range of customers across all aspects of penetration testing. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a highly skilled and collaborative team, delivering high-quality testing and security consulting services in real-world environments.
We welcome candidates with either a broad set of skills or a focus on specific areas within penetration testing. Whether you're experienced or looking to grow, this role is ideal for anyone who has been providing penetration testing or security consulting services and wants to gain further experience, achieve new certifications, or simply work with a great team.
You will be working under the guidance of a team leader or Head of Assurance testing and will be actively involved in client engagements, while also having dedicated time to develop your skills and work towards industry-recognised certifications. A willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously improve is essential. Just as important is a mindset focused on collaboration, sharing knowledge, supporting peers, and contributing to a culture of growth.
In addition to hands-on testing work, you will also collaborate with the sales team to ensure appropriate scoping of new business opportunities. This includes providing technical input and helping to create accurate, well-defined proposals that set the foundation for successful project delivery.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about cybersecurity and is looking to progress their career as a penetration tester within a forward-thinking and supportive environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
