Join Standard Life's expanding Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) business and be part of one of the most exciting growth stories in the UK retirement market. Backed by a recently announced £2bn capital commitment and a bold vision for future growth, we're investing in our people, capabilities and market presence as we support an increasing number of pension schemes through complex de-risking journeys.

As a Transaction Manager, you'll be at the centre of that growth, taking ownership of transaction pricing, negotiation and execution whilst working alongside industry-leading experts to deliver innovative solutions and outstanding customer outcomes. If you're looking for an opportunity to combine technical expertise, commercial influence and tangible market impact, there has never been a more exciting time to join our team.

Who are we?

We’re Standard Life, a retirement specialist focused entirely on retirement savings and income. We champion the belief that everyone’s journey to and through retirement can be better, and for more than 200 years, we’ve been helping our customers plan and prepare for their financial futures.

Life today is increasingly complicated, uncertain and unpredictable. People move through different careers, face unexpected moments and navigate important choices. We offer our colleagues flexibility, trust and benefits that work for whatever life brings. In return we expect curiosity, connection, accountability and high standards. We make room for what matters - so you can bring your best, every day.

The Opportunity

You will lead the pricing, negotiation and execution of small and medium-sized Bulk Purchase Annuity transactions, taking responsibility for all aspects of deal management and governance through to contract completion. You will also support senior colleagues on the delivery of larger and more complex transactions.

Combining strong technical expertise with commercial judgement, you will play a central role in shaping transaction strategy, overseeing pricing and supporting informed and effective decision-making. You will work closely with colleagues across the business to deliver successful transaction outcomes that support our strategy and maintain a clear focus on customers and policyholders.

A key part of the role will be building strong relationships with trustees, sponsors, advisers and internal stakeholders, while helping to develop the technical capability and future talent of the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

Lead transaction execution and commercial decision-making

  • Lead all aspects of deal management for small and medium-sized transactions, taking responsibility for delivery from the initial transaction process through to contract completion.
  • Support senior colleagues on the delivery of larger and more complex transactions.
  • Lead transaction pricing, negotiation and execution, ensuring activity is coordinated effectively across all relevant workstreams.
  • Oversee the quality and accuracy of pricing, applying the agreed pricing basis alongside commercial judgement, current market dynamics and Standard Life’s wider strategy.
  • Use strong technical and business knowledge to support informed decision-making and successful commercial outcomes.
  • Contribute to the legal aspects of transactions and work closely with internal and external legal advisers to support effective execution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
