Are you the person everyone turns to when pensions get complicated?
When new rules land, legislation changes or something technically awkward crops up, are you the one people ask:
“What does this actually mean?”
If so, this is the kind of role where that knowledge carries real weight.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Pensions within a growing national financial services business, becoming a senior technical point of reference across the wider operation.
The team is already established and expected to grow further, so there’s genuine scope to build your influence and become a key technical figure in the business.
PACKAGE
Salary is up to £80,000, alongside a strong benefits package including:
- 25 days’ holiday rising to 28
- Pension
- Life assurance
- 24/7 GP access
- Medicash
- Enhanced family leave
- Free on-site parking
THE JOB
This isn’t a traditional people-management job.
It’s much more of a player-coach / senior technical expert position. You’ll spend your time understanding pension legislation, regulatory change and technical developments, then working out what they actually mean operationally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

That could include:
- Interpreting new pension rules and legislation
- Understanding the operational impact
- Helping shape processes, procedures and systems
- Working with Compliance, Operations, Transfers and IT
- Acting as the escalation point for complex pension issues
- Guiding colleagues on technical matters
- Helping ensure pension rules are applied correctly and consistently
You won’t just know the rules.
You’ll help decide how the business responds to them.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED

You could be working for a pension provider, platform, SIPP/SSAS operator, pension consultancy or occupational pensions business.
You may currently be a Pensions Technical Specialist, Technical Consultant, Senior Pensions Administrator, Pensions Consultant, Technical Manager or Pensions Specialist.

What matters is that when pension rules change, you’re already thinking about what they mean, where the risks are and what needs to happen next.
For the first three months you’ll need to be in the Newcastle office around three days per week. After that, it reduces to roughly two days every other week, with the rest of your time working remotely.
PROCESS
The first stage is a 20-question technical discussion over Teams. They want to know whether you genuinely understand pensions.
And if you do, this is a chance to become one of the most technically influential people in the business.
