Pensions Audit Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Pensions Audit Manager to join their Assurance team. This role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of pension scheme clients, lead audit engagements from planning through to completion, and play a key role in developing client relationships and supporting the growth of audit teams. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality assurance services and supporting strong governance outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of pension scheme audit clients, acting as the primary point of contact.
  • Lead statutory audit engagements from planning through to completion.
  • Prepare and review audit planning documentation, audit findings reports, and client deliverables.
  • Oversee audit budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure efficient engagement delivery.
  • Review the work of junior team members and provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a high standard of service.
  • Ensure assignments are completed in accordance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to provide added value through governance, risk, and control recommendations.
  • Support and lead pensions assurance, governance, and risk management projects.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to ensure successful client outcomes and the continued development of the pensions audit offering.

Skills & Experience

  • ACA, ACCA, ICAS, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong external audit background with significant experience in pension scheme audits.
  • Good understanding of pension scheme accounting requirements, relevant regulations, and industry standards, including the Pensions SORP.
  • Proven experience managing audit engagements and client relationships.
  • Strong people management, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines across a varied client portfolio.
  • Commercial awareness and a commitment to delivering excellent client service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
