Pensions Operations Manager – Defined Contribution

Reading | Hybrid
£60,000 – £75,000 + bonus + enhanced benefits

There are plenty of pensions administration roles where the job is essentially to keep the machine running.

This isn’t one of them.

I’m recruiting an Operations Manager to take a key leadership role within an established Defined Contribution pensions operation in Reading.

The brief is broader than day-to-day delivery. You’ll have responsibility for the performance of the team, but also real scope to improve how the operation works - developing people, raising standards, improving processes and helping shape the service as it evolves. You’ll be joining at a level where your judgement matters. You’ll lead and develop managers and their teams, oversee service quality and more complex member issues, manage operational performance and work closely with senior stakeholders across the business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

There is also a strong change element to the role. The business wants someone who can look beyond today’s workload, identify where things could work better and then help make those improvements happen.

What they’re looking for:

  • Strong Defined Contribution pensions experience
  • A solid technical understanding of DC administration
  • Proven experience leading and developing people
  • Experience running a busy pensions operation or service
  • The credibility to challenge, improve and influence
  • Someone comfortable balancing quality, people, clients and commercial performance
  • Master Trust experience would be useful, but it isn’t essential.

This could be particularly interesting if you’re already operating as a DC Administration Manager, Senior Administration Manager or Operations Manager and want a role with more ownership than simply managing BAU.

If you know DC pensions inside out and want a role where you can have a genuine impact on how the operation is run, I’d be keen to speak.
