About the Role
As our People Advisor, you’ll play a key role in delivering a responsive, practical, and high-quality people service across Argyll. This is a hands-on role supporting managers and employees across the full employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on employee relations, people administration, compliance, and operational excellence.
You’ll be a trusted first point of contact for managers, helping them handle people matters confidently and consistently — from absence, performance, and conduct through to recruitment, onboarding, and employee changes. This role would suit a strong People Advisor with solid employee relations experience, ideally gained in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment such as hospitality, retail, leisure, or premium service.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide practical advice and guidance to managers and employees on day-to-day people matters, ensuring consistency, fairness, and compliance with employment law and company policy
- Manage a broad range of employee relations cases — absence, conduct, performance, grievance, disciplinary, and investigations — from initial advice through to outcome
- Support the full employee lifecycle: recruitment coordination, onboarding, probation reviews, contractual changes, family leave, and offboarding
- Coordinate people administration, payroll inputs, benefits processes, and employee records, with accuracy and confidentiality
- Maintain and improve HR systems, templates, policies, and processes
- Produce people reports and insights on absence, turnover, and employee relations trends
- Coach managers on people processes and good people management practice

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
