About The Role
At Tropic, people are at the heart of everything we do – and that starts with our HQ team. As our business continues to grow and evolve, so does the breadth and pace of our People & Culture function. We’re looking for an experienced People & Culture Manager (Maternity Cover) to join our established P&C team and help us continue to deliver a brilliant experience for our colleagues and managers.
Reporting to the Head of People & Culture and working closely alongside our existing People & Culture Manager and wider team, you’ll share responsibility across a broad and varied P&C remit. You’ll have the autonomy to take the lead in agreed areas, while collaborating across the team on our wider people priorities.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. You might be coaching a manager through a complex colleague matter one day, supporting recruitment or wellbeing the next, and contributing to a wider culture or P&C project in between.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable getting stuck into the day-to-day, while also seeing the bigger picture – someone who builds trusted relationships, brings sound judgement and isn’t afraid to take ownership when needed.
If you enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems and making a genuine difference to people’s experience at work, you’ll feel right at home here.
Key Responsibilities
People & Culture Operations
- Share ownership of the day-to-day running of People & Culture operations, ensuring a seamless and positive colleague experience
- Confidently use our HR system (Employment Hero), ensuring data accuracy, compliance and effective reporting (including ATS management)
- Be a trusted point of contact for P&C queries, supporting colleagues and managers across the business
- Support and contribute to engagement initiatives, helping to ensure actions are delivered and embedded, including keeping our Great Place to Work surveys on track
Leadership & Strategic Support
- Work closely with the Head of People & Culture and fellow P&C Manager to deliver the team’s priorities and provide consistent support across the function
- Provide experienced support on complex people matters, working with the Head of P&C and wider team where appropriate
- Support on a wide range of People & Culture priorities, balancing day-to-day delivery with broader, strategic initiatives
Colleague Relations
- Act as a trusted advisor to managers and colleagues across a wide range of colleague relations matters, providing confident and practical guidance
- Lead and chair investigations, disciplinary processes and hearings with confidence and care
- Take ownership of ER cases end-to-end, using the case tracker to ensure consistency, fairness and thorough documentation
- Support the wider P&C team on ER cases, building their confidence and capability over time
- Work with external HR consultants to ensure policies, processes and the company handbook remain up to date and compliant

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
