People Business Partner
We’re looking for a People Business Partner to join our team on a fixed term contract until 31st December 2027.
Role Overview
As a People Business Partner, you’ll work closely with senior leaders to help them achieve their goals through their people. Acting as a trusted adviser and internal consultant, you’ll use insight, coaching and professional expertise to support workforce planning, organisational performance, leadership capability and effective change. Working as part of a national People team, you’ll help deliver a consistent and positive experience for colleagues and volunteers, while ensuring people solutions are aligned to organisational priorities.

What it's like to work here
This is an important time to join us as we embark on an ambitious 10-year strategy, with people Business Partners are at the heart of this work. You'll join a collaborative national People team focused on building capability, improving performance and creating a positive experience for everyone. Building strong partnerships based on mutual trust will be key to success in this role. You’ll be supporting senior stakeholders, including Executive Directors, People Specialists and a wide variety of colleagues bringing together diverse expertise and perspectives to develop practical solutions.
With a strong focus on coaching and continuous improvement, you’ll balance strategic thinking with pragmatic delivery. Using your broad generalist skills and support from the specialist teams within the People Directorate, you’ll deliver effective and informed people solutions. You’ll influence decision-making at a national level, contributing to strategic projects and play an important part in helping the organisation adapt, evolve and deliver on its long-term ambitions.

As this is a national role, there is flexibility on your contractual place of work. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Lead People Business Partner, you’ll partner with senior leaders to understand organisational priorities and provide expert people advice that supports performance, engagement and long-term success. Using people data, workforce insights and external best practice, you'll identify opportunities for improvement and help shape effective people solutions. You'll coach and support leaders to build their confidence and capability, helping them lead their teams successfully and create positive working environments. You'll work with specialist colleagues to support talent and succession planning, recruitment activity, inclusion, learning and development, employee relations and organisational change. You'll also contribute to national projects and initiatives, supporting the delivery of a joined-up and consistent people service while ensuring colleagues and volunteers have access to the support and opportunities they need to thrive.

Who we're looking for
You’ll bring a broad range of the following knowledge, skills and experience, shaped by different roles, sectors or career paths, and the judgment to apply them effectively at scale:
- Significant generalist HR experience
- Experience coaching senior managers to build capability, confidence and effective leadership
- Experience aligning people strategies and interventions with wider organisational objectives
- Experience coordinating and implementing organisational change and leading people-focused projects
- Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders and influence and challenge within a matrix environment
- Ability to analyse complex issues, use people data and insight effectively, and recommend practical solutions that support decision-making
- Demonstrable knowledge and commitment to inclusion, with the ability to promote inclusive practices and create environments where people feel valued and supported
