This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit someone with experience in an HR Officer, People Officer, or similar generalist HR role who enjoys working closely with managers, supporting people processes, and continuing to develop their knowledge across all areas of HR.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing day-to-day HR guidance and support to managers on people matters, including performance, absence, conduct, and policy queries, with support from the Retail People Partner, where needed.
- Supporting employee relations cases by coordinating processes, preparing documentation, tracking progress, and helping managers follow the appropriate procedures.
- Assisting with investigations and formal meetings, including preparing paperwork, coordinating meetings, and taking notes, where required.
- Supporting employee lifecycle activities, including probation reviews, family-friendly matters, and flexible working requests.
- Helping to deliver HR projects and initiatives, including employee engagement activity, change projects, and policy updates.
- Maintaining accurate employee records and ensuring HR information is handled confidentially and in line with GDPR requirements.
- Supporting the preparation and analysis of people data, including absence and employee relations information, to help identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Assisting with annual people processes, including pay review and reward activity, ensuring information is accurate and communications are clear and consistent.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
