About Us
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals England and Wales as well as the reserved unified tribunals across the United Kingdom. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and making a difference in people’s lives to deliver justice.
National Services provides centralised support through Courts and Tribunals Service Centres, Business Centres and Enforcement Offices. We handle case administration, customer queries by phone, email, and webchat and enable self-service in our digital services.
Your role
This is a line management role responsible for each cohort of new learners whilst they pass through the People Development function in National Services. You will ensure that they have the excellent people skills and knowledge needed to deliver an accessible and inclusive service to HMCTS’ diverse users.
The role will focus on the short to medium term needs of our learners and you will work with the Operations teams to transition learners and new employees into the business.
Key Activities Will Include:
- To manage and coordinate development coaches.
- To lead the site-wide training strategy and implementation.
- To support the delivery of the Civil Leadership Confidence & Capability Programme – a core Civil Business Plan objective.
- To improve consistency and quality of learning experiences across Civil teams.

Are you a hands-on problem solver with the ability to engage with people at all levels and deliver excellent service through effectively leading a team? A confident communicator, you will use your skills and abilities to effectively lead your team and set local priorities and objectives aligned to national/regional strategies and plans. Driven by your enthusiasm to provide excellent customer service through your team, you’ll know that employee engagement, morale and motivation is key to delivering a highly effective performance.
You’ll be able to give direction and close support to Team Leaders to develop their team plans to form part of the overall business plan for the region. You’ll make sure that targets are met and the team is resourced and trained effectively to meet your allocated budget, identifying and implementing solutions to local problems.

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.
- Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. The shift pattern will be 09:00-17:00.
- HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy.
- Non-contractual hybrid working may be available. Hybrid working arrangements will be determined by the business and will only be available when it has been established that delivering the service from home can be done effectively. We cannot facilitate requests for a particular work from home/working in the office schedule.
