I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

As we’re not looking to fit in with the higher education status quo and are challenging it by doing things differently, we’re looking for someone who will too. As part of the application process, we invite you to create your own Job Profile for the People Director role, showing us how you would shape, prioritise and define the position to deliver maximum impact for Bucks New University.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can demonstrate impact through their significant experience of leading HR teams
  • Thinks strategically but acts pragmatically, challenging ‘the way we’ve always done it’
  • Can influence at Executive and Board level
  • Is confident making courageous decisions
  • Uses People data and insight to drive action
  • Has led successful cultural and organisational transformation
  • Understands the realities of working in a unionised environment
  • Is passionate about developing talent and leadership
  • Sees AI and digital innovation as opportunities, not threats
  • Has Chartered status of the CIPD or equivalent HR experience
