The Winchester Hotel & Spa

The Winchester Hotel & Spa has been one of Winchester’s most popular destinations for weekend getaways and spa breaks for over 20 years. The hotel consists of 96 bedrooms across four room types, a relaxing spa with a range of professional treatments as well as a refreshing pool and hot tub, flexible function rooms and a stylish bar and restaurant to enjoy throughout the day.

Job Purpose

We are looking for a People, Learning & Development Coordinator who will play a key role in supporting the hotel’s people strategy, ensuring colleagues receive a positive employee experience from joining the business through to their ongoing development.

The role will coordinate and support all aspects of learning, development, training, onboarding and people initiatives, working closely with managers and department heads to identify development needs and ensure colleagues have the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

A key part of this role will be supporting our hotels to maintain and continuously improve quality and service standards. You will help ensure our colleagues have the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver an exceptional guest experience, while working with operational teams to identify opportunities for improvement.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for career growth within the People & Culture function, with the potential to develop your Learning & Development experience, take on increasing responsibility and progress your career within the hotel and wider business.

This position covers 2 independent Hotels, the Elvetham Hotel and the Winchester Hotel & Spa, the ability to travel between the 2 hotels will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the hotel’s learning and development programme, ensuring training is planned, communicated and delivered effectively.
  • Work with department managers to identify training and development needs across their teams.
  • Maintain an annual training calendar and ensure mandatory and role-specific training is completed within required timescales.
  • Organise and coordinate internal and external training sessions, including room bookings, trainers, materials, attendance and evaluations.
  • Support the delivery of the hotel’s induction and onboarding programme, ensuring new colleagues receive a positive and engaging introduction to the business.
  • Coordinate colleague inductions and ensure all required onboarding training is completed.
  • Support managers with probation reviews and ensure these are scheduled and completed within the required timescales.
  • Maintain accurate training records and monitor completion rates.
  • Produce regular training reports and highlight areas requiring attention.
  • Support the implementation of e-learning and digital learning platforms.
  • Encourage a positive learning culture where colleagues are supported and encouraged to develop their skills and careers.
  • Assist with the development of career pathways, succession planning and talent development initiatives.
  • Support apprenticeships, work experience, internships and other development programmes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training through feedback, assessments and performance measures.
  • Identify and support opportunities for colleagues’ career growth and progression, working with individuals and managers to understand career aspirations, identify development needs and explore suitable pathways, training and opportunities within the hotel.
  • Coordinate and deliver engaging, interactive and practical training sessions to colleagues at all levels.

Skill And Experience Requirements

  • Experience working within the hospitality or hotel industry.
  • Passion for designing and delivering training.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • Confident communicating with both operational teams and senior managers.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • A proactive and positive approach to problem solving.
  • Experience delivering or facilitating training sessions.
