Company Description

Uplands Enterprise Trust (UET) is a Swindon-based charity that supports young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to develop independence and life skills. Established in 2012, UET is guided by a knowledgeable voluntary Board of Trustees and a team of enthusiastic, skilled, and creative staff. The Trust is committed to continually developing and expanding its services to improve the lives of disabled young people in Swindon and the surrounding areas. UET offers Skills for Life and Skills for Work programs for post-18 learners, a Saturday club, and work experience opportunities in charity shops and on a farm in partnership with Brunel SEN MAT.

Role Description

The People Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Swindon, responsible for leading and supporting staff across UET’s services. This role involves day-to-day management of people processes, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and staff development. The People Manager will work closely with leadership to ensure a positive, inclusive, and safe working environment that reflects UET’s values and supports high-quality provision for young people with SEND.

The role also requires regular collaboration with trustees, managers, and external partners to align people practices with the Trust’s strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in people management, including team leadership, performance management, and staff supervision.
  • Strong skills in HR administration, policies, and procedures, with the ability to manage recruitment, onboarding, and documentation effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, handle sensitive issues, and support a diverse workforce.
  • Experience in training, coaching, or staff development, with the ability to identify learning needs and coordinate appropriate learning opportunities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion principles, particularly in settings that support young people with SEND.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Relevant professional qualification or degree in Human Resources, People Management, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in charity, education, or social care settings is highly desirable.
