People, Operations & Capability Manager

Lead workforce and capability planning through growth and modernisation

Shape workflow, people plans and leadership support across underwriting

Hybrid 80% homeworking and 20% from Stratford Upon Avon

About the role

At NFU Mutual, you'll join the Head Office underwriting function at a significant point in its growth and modernisation journey. With the department expanding rapidly and investing in new capabilities, data driven decision making and emerging technology, you'll play a key role in helping the function deliver its strategic ambitions.

Reporting to the Head of Underwriting, you'll lead the coordination of workforce planning, operational planning and capability development activities across the department. Working closely with senior leaders, you'll ensure priorities, resources and future capability requirements are aligned to business objectives and translated into clear delivery plans.

You’ll be responsible for proactively planning how the team develops, grows and builds the skills it needs for the future. This includes coordinating people and engagement plans, talent and succession planning, learning activity and the skills and competency requirements for underwriting roles.

Leading a small team, you’ll coach and develop colleagues, create clear accountability for delivery and help bring connected workstreams together. You’ll contribute to leadership discussions, offer constructive challenge and take ownership of additional projects where coordinated support is needed.

This is a full time role based in Stratford Upon Avon, with 80% homeworking and 20% from the office.

About you

You’re a confident and credible leader who builds strong relationships across functions and works effectively with senior stakeholders. Comfortable influencing and constructively challenging others, you balance strategic thinking with a pragmatic approach to delivery. You communicate clearly, bring people together around shared goals and remain resilient when managing competing priorities. Organised and accountable, you use insight to solve problems, make informed decisions and turn plans into action. You also have a proven track record of coaching, mentoring and developing others, creating engagement and supporting high performance across teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
