Who are we looking for?
A capable, hands-on People Operations professional who can take ownership of the employee lifecycle and keep our people processes running well. You will be confident working independently, applying company policies and processes to routine decisions, and knowing when a matter needs to be escalated.
You will have worked in a software development company and understand how to build effective working relationships with engineers and their managers. Experience in a growing company of around 20–50 people will help you bring the right balance of structure, pragmatism and personal support. You will be an individual contributor within the Operations team, confident in what you know and keen to keep learning.
The role
The People Operations Manager will own the practical delivery of People Operations across the employee lifecycle. You will be responsible for the HRIS and applicant tracking system (ATS), ensuring that records, workflows and reporting are accurate and useful.
You will be a reliable point of contact for employees and managers, applying company policies consistently and resolving everyday questions independently. You will work closely with the Head of Operations and escalate sensitive, unusual or higher-risk matters when needed.
Responsibilities
- Manage People Operations processes from recruitment and onboarding through to employee changes, reviews and offboarding.
- Own the day-to-day operation of the HRIS and ATS, including data quality, access, workflows, templates and routine reporting.
- Coordinate recruitment with hiring managers and external recruiters, keeping candidates informed and ATS records complete.
- Prepare and maintain accurate employee documentation and records, including changes to roles, reporting lines, working arrangements and benefits.
- Gather, check and submit the employee information needed for each payroll run, working with Finance to resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
- Coordinate probation and annual review processes, following up with managers to keep them on track.
- Administer leave, absence and other routine employee lifecycle processes in line with company policy.
- Answer employee and manager questions clearly, making routine decisions within agreed policies and escalating matters outside your remit.
- Handle employee and candidate information securely, applying privacy notices, access controls and retention requirements in practice.
- Keep process guidance up to date and improve workflows where they cause delays, errors or unnecessary work.
- Work with the wider Operations team to provide a consistent, well-organised experience for colleagues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
