Salary: £28,000–£32,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time hours)
Location: 35a Churchill Way, Chapeltown, Sheffield, S35 2PY
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (40 hours per week)
Job Type: Full-time or part-time
Working Pattern: Fully office-based

As our group continues to grow, we are looking for an organised, proactive and detail-oriented People & Payroll Officer to join our team. Working across the multiple group entities, you will play a key role in supporting both our payroll and HR functions, helping to ensure our people processes run smoothly, accurately and efficiently.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys variety, takes pride in getting the details right and is keen to contribute to a supportive, collaborative working environment. We are open to both full-time and part-time applicants and would welcome discussions around flexible working hours for the right candidate.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on role combining monthly payroll administration with day-to-day HR support. You will work closely with managers, Heads of Department, employees and external payroll providers to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time, while also supporting the wider employee lifecycle. The successful candidate will be confident managing their own workload, handling confidential information and balancing competing priorities in a busy, growing business.

- Coordinate and review monthly payroll information across multiple group entities, liaising with Heads of Department and managers to ensure all changes are accurate, complete and appropriately authorised.
- Prepare, review and submit monthly payroll data accurately and within strict deadlines.
- Check payroll reports and resolve discrepancies with payroll providers and internal departments.
- Process and reconcile employee and employer pension contributions.
- Administer starters, leavers, salary changes, benefits and other employee payroll amendments.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date and confidential payroll records.
- Respond to employee payroll and benefits queries in a professional, timely and helpful manner.
- Ensure payroll processes comply with current legislation, HMRC requirements, pension regulations and company policies.
- Support payroll reporting, reconciliations and process improvements.
HR Administration & Employee Support
- Monitor and manage the HR inbox, responding to routine employee and manager queries or directing them to the appropriate person where necessary.
- Support the onboarding and offboarding process, including preparing documentation, coordinating new starter information and ensuring employee records are updated.
- Assist with general HR administration throughout the employee lifecycle, including employee changes, documentation and record keeping.
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and HR systems.
- Provide administrative support to the HR team as required, including reporting, correspondence and employee documentation.
- Support other HR duties and projects as needed, adapting to the changing needs of the business.

About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, approachable and dependable, with a strong payroll background and an interest in supporting wider HR activities.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A minimum of 4 years' payroll experience, ideally within a multi-site or multi-entity environment.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll processes, legislation, HMRC requirements and pension administration.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines.
- A proactive, methodical and diligent approach to work.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across the business.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- The ability to work independently, use initiative and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- A professional and discreet approach to handling sensitive and confidential information.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience in a combined payroll and HR administration role.
- Experience using payroll software systems, particularly Rippling.
- Experience managing a shared HR inbox and supporting onboarding and offboarding processes.
