The Opportunity
Working as part of the People Services team the role holder will work with a range of stakeholders delivering expert advice and support to a defined business area.
You will develop and coach managers and leaders, increasing the capability and confidence in relation to the understanding and application of our people policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and coach managers and leaders on the delivery of employee relations processes including disciplinary, grievance, sickness and performance management
- Upskills managers and leaders on employee relations processes
- Responsible for management of sickness absence in a defined business area, coaching managers on areas such as reasonable adjustments, occupational health and support pathways.
- Monitor and assess absence trends, promoting early intervention and flagging trends and appropriate solutions with local leadership
- Support and have a sound understanding of the local well-being programme initiatives.
- Monitoring, reporting and analysing data in line with business needs including production of monthly MI dashboards and identifying trends and patterns from data analysis.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, to understand their needs and expectations and provide responsive and high-quality people support.
- Work with the Partnering Team to identify and understand local business need and seek specialist support from our centres of excellence teams where appropriate.
- Lead on the development of policies and associated guidance, ensuring these are operationalised within the region
- Ensure our processes and procedures are adapted so that they are fit for purpose, meeting both the business needs and creating the best possible environment
- Develop tools and training material that enables the Advisory team to provide a proactive service and upskills managers on our People Policies
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvements within People Services team with the member experience at heart, question and challenge the traditional way or view.
- Always looking at ways to provide advice and solutions through innovative thinking.
- Actively contribute to the delivery of people priorities and projects.

Is this role right for you?
- Experience of working in a generalist People focused role in a similar organisation with detailed knowledge of people best practices, processes and systems
- Experience of supporting the business with complex employee relations cases including performance management
- Experience of providing complex People related advice to managers with confidence and self-belief.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law, with the ability to identify, explain and strategize to mitigate legal, reputational and financial risk.
- Experience of providing a proactive service, enabling members to become empowered and more self-serving.
- Confidence and ability to conduct difficult and sensitive conversations with compassion and empathy
- Strong influencing skills, able to manage expectations and the capability to build effective relationships across Arup
- Highly organised and responsive, with ability to work to tight deadlines
- Has an outlook and approach that instils confidence in our members.
- Sees change as an inevitable part of life and adapt to this in a positive way looking at continuous improvements of processes, systems, content and advice in People services.
- Comfortable to challenge and always working to seek ways in which People Services can ‘add value.’
- Confident in using Microsoft packages
- Likely to hold CIPD membership and can evidence own continuous professional development
