Role Location
This role will be based in Castleford - it is an office-based role.
About the Role
Northern Powergrid are seeking highly capable Analysts to help turn our operational data into clear, actionable insight. Sitting within Regional Operations, this role is at the heart of how we understand and improve performance - bringing together complex data from across our operational systems, analysing it to find what matters, and visualising it so field and regional Leaders can act with confidence. The successful candidate(s) will work with the leadership team to identify, highlight and improve performance opportunities - enabling us to deliver an ever-improving service to our customers.
We're the people who manage the electricity network that powers everyday life for more than 8 million people across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North-East, Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean and organise complex internal and external data from multiple sources.
- Identify trends, patterns and anomalies in complex datasets.
- Track and analyse operational performance, including both financial and non-financial outputs.
- Analyse and interpret unit cost data, identifying trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve.
- Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) dashboards and prepare clear, visual reports for the leadership team.
- Support the production of regular performance reporting and regulatory outputs, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and auditability.
- Identify and investigate performance variances, providing clear root cause analysis and recommended actions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, finance, safety) to gather requirements and drive actionable recommendations.
- Use data to challenge assumptions, influence decisions, and drive evidence-based improvements in performance and efficiency.
- Be an advocate for innovation - contributing to the continuous improvement of data, reporting, and processes, enhancing visibility and insight across our teams.

Key Competencies
- Ability to extract, clean and interpret complex datasets, identify trends, and translate analysis into clear, actionable insights.
- Strong capability in data visualisation (e.g. Excel, Power BI), with the ability to build robust, scalable and analytical outputs.
- Good commercial awareness, with the ability to assess value for money and efficiency, understanding supply vs demand.
- Confident communicator with the ability to present complex information clearly and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to track performance, identify variances, conduct root cause analysis, and highlight areas of improvement.
- High level of accuracy and rigour, particularly when working with data used for reporting, decision-making, and regulatory purposes.
- Proactively seeks opportunities to enhance data quality, reporting processes, and analytical approaches.
Essential Qualifications & Attributes
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline such as data/analytics, mathematics, engineering, economics, finance, etc.
- Proven experience in a data analysis or performance insight role.
- Experience of managing solutions that involve complex problem solving and/or critical thinking in the context of operational improvement and better customer outcomes.
- Strong experience in data visualisation using Power BI and Excel for data analysis.
- Experience of tracking and analysing performance (financial and/or operational metrics)
- Ability to communicate analytical findings and complex concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working with multiple data sources to produce integrated insight
- Experience of preparing or evaluating business/investment plans including in relation to unit cost allowances, performance targets, incentives and/or finance issues

Desirable Qualifications & Attributes
- Experienced in text-based programming language (e.g Python, interactive Dashboards etc.).
- Experience analysing complex data and identifying efficiency & effectiveness opportunities
- Knowledge of regulated industries (e.g. utilities, infrastructure, energy)
- Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements
- Exposure to field engineering environments
- Relevant professional qualification or certification (e.g. data analytics, finance, project management)
