Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Performance Manager with a strong background in project controls to support the successful delivery and performance of a portfolio of complex projects.
The Performance Manager will be responsible for providing clear, accurate and insightful performance information across cost, schedule, risk, change and overall project performance. Working closely with Project Managers, Project Controls teams, Commercial, Finance and senior stakeholders, you will help ensure projects are effectively controlled and that emerging issues are identified and addressed early.
This role will play a key part in driving consistent project controls processes, improving performance visibility and supporting informed decision-making across the project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of project performance management processes across projects and programmes.
- Establish and maintain consistent project controls and performance reporting standards.
- Monitor project performance across cost, schedule, risk, change, resources and key deliverables.
- Develop and maintain performance dashboards and management information for project and senior leadership teams.
- Analyse project data to identify trends, variances, risks, opportunities and emerging performance issues.
- Provide clear commentary and insight into project performance, highlighting key areas requiring management attention.
- Work closely with Planning, Cost, Commercial and Risk teams to ensure project controls information is accurate, aligned and integrated.
- Monitor performance against approved baselines, budgets, schedules and key project milestones.
- Support the implementation of Earned Value Management (EVM) and other performance measurement techniques where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain project and portfolio-level KPIs and performance indicators.
- Lead regular performance reviews with project teams and challenge performance where appropriate.
- Identify root causes of performance issues and support project teams in developing corrective and recovery actions.
- Monitor the effectiveness of agreed mitigation and improvement actions.
- Support project governance, reporting cycles and senior management reviews.
- Ensure project controls data is captured consistently and presented in a clear and meaningful way.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of project controls systems, processes and reporting.
- Support lessons learned and the identification of best practice across the project portfolio.
- Provide coaching and guidance to project teams on performance management and project controls processes.

About You
We are looking for a commercially and analytically minded Performance Manager who understands how effective project controls can improve project delivery.
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience within project controls, project performance, programme controls or PMO environments.
- Experience working across complex projects or programmes within energy, infrastructure, construction, engineering or other major capital projects.
- Strong understanding of project controls disciplines, including planning, cost control, risk, change and reporting.
- Proven experience analysing project performance and translating data into clear management information.
- Experience developing and managing project and portfolio-level KPIs.
- Strong understanding of baseline management, variance analysis and performance measurement.
- Experience with Earned Value Management and performance forecasting would be advantageous.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with project controls and reporting systems.
- Experience with tools such as Power BI, Primavera P6, SAP, Oracle, EcoSys or similar systems would be beneficial.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Confidence working with Project Managers, Project Controls Managers, Commercial teams and senior leadership.
- A proactive approach to identifying performance issues and driving improvement.
- Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to understand the wider project and business context.
