Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Perinatal Matron to work within our maternity services that were rated as outstanding by CQC at their latest visit.
With transformational leadership skills and extensive midwifery experience, the post holder will be accountable for the provision of high-quality care in their area/s of responsibility. Working within the maternity senior leadership team, the post holder will provide professional, clinical, and managerial leadership, also working in collaboration with the wider matron team within the Royal United Hospital.
The post holder will provide expert advice to Midwives / Nurses / Leads and other managers to ensure that midwifery and neonatal practice and patient care is delivered to the highest standards.

Main duties of the job
- To be responsible for the Midwifery and Neonatal leadership, improvement, and management of services within own defined clinical area/specialty in order to ensure the highest standards of patient care and service are delivered in the most efficient and effective way.
- To provide expert advice to Midwives / Nurses / Leads and other managers / leaders to ensure that midwifery and neonatal practice and patient care is delivered to the highest standards.
- To assume the role of Matron within own area of clinical responsibility and support the Head of Midwifery and Neonates to provide expert advice as required.
- To ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively within own defined clinical area/specialty and that competence in clinical practice is both developed and maintained, to maximise the patient experience and service.
- To take a professional lead role in advising and supporting the Divisional Leadership Team within the corporate perinatal agenda, in addition to own specialist area of practice and development.
- To participate in the manager on call rota and to deputise for the Deputy Director of Midwifery.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

- To provide expert advice to Midwives / Nurses / Leads and other managers / leaders to ensure that midwifery and neonatal practice and patient care is delivered to the highest standards.
- To assume the role of Matron within own area of clinical responsibility and support the Head of Midwifery and Neonates to provide expert advice as required.
- To ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively within own defined clinical area/specialty and that competence in clinical practice is both developed and maintained, to maximise the patient experience and service.
- To ensure that all responsible staff and teams within the defined clinical area/specialty are effectively line managed and developed to achieve their own and their departmental objectives.
- To take a professional lead role in advising and supporting the Divisional Leadership Team within the corporate perinatal agenda, in addition to own specialist area of practice and development.
- To contribute to the corporate perinatal agenda and lead upon specific projects as requested.
- To act as a role model as a highly visible, accessible, fair and authoritative figure to whom staff, patients, families, and carers can rely upon.
- To participate in the manager on call rota and to deputise for the Deputy Director of Midwifery.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council or Health Professions Council.
- Post-registration qualification / post-graduate diploma & further training, preferably in specialty area.
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification
- Masters degree.
- Leadership course
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- Experience working at a senior level in leading a team
- Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of clinical knowledge & practice during working as Band 7 and its application to deliver improvement.
- Demonstrable experience of achieving changed clinical practice and improving services to increase quality and effectiveness.
- Demonstrable experience of effective budgetary management.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of involvement in service users’ advocacy and complaints resolution.
- Project management experience.
