Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
Main Duties of the Job
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our expanding and innovative Perioperative Care Team. The successful post holder will work within the perioperative care service, helping to ensure that patients are fully optimised prior to surgery. This role plays a key part in improving patient experience, reducing perioperative risk, and supporting the reduction of elective surgery waiting times.
The Perioperative Care Service at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) comprises:
- Surgical Pre-Assessment
- Perioperative Anaemia Service
- Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET)
- Prehabilitation Services
- Shared Decision-Making Clinics
In addition, the service delivers a range of early screening programmes, providing opportunities for patients to be optimised well in advance of surgery and appropriately triaged for outsourcing where suitable.
The primary focus of this role will initially be within Surgical Pre-Assessment. Nurses appointed to this position will undertake a comprehensive training programme, including completion of the History Taking and Physical Assessment Course. Following successful completion of the required training and competencies, candidates will progress to become a Band 6 Nurse Practitioner.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, motivated and patient-focused nurse looking to develop advanced clinical skills within a supportive and forward-thinking perioperative service.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
