This is an exciting opportunity to join the management team in Melton and Charnwood, with a focus on Waiting Well in our mental health teams. This would be an ideal opportunity for someone wanting to progress their career into management.
We have secured funding for a dedicated Peripatetic Team Manager to lead a focused three-month programme designed to improve flow through the Adult Mental Health waiting list, strengthen Waiting Well practice and support the delivery of timely, strengths-based interventions for adults awaiting allocation.
You will provide operational leadership to increase capacity, support practitioners to resolve outstanding work, reduce waiting times and improve people's experience whilst waiting for longer-term responses.
This is an opportunity to lead service improvement, embed new ways of working and demonstrate how proactive leadership, partnership working and strengths-based practice can improve outcomes for adults with mental health needs.
About The Role
This is an opportunity to be part of an ambitious programme that is reshaping Adult Mental Health Social Care.
You will work alongside an experienced and supportive leadership team, influencing new ways of working that place prevention, strengths-based practice and partnership at the heart of service delivery.
Your work will directly contribute to improving people's experience of Adult Social Care by reducing delays, strengthening Waiting Well support and helping ensure adults receive the right intervention at the right time.
If you enjoy leading change, improving services and making a tangible difference, we would love to hear from you.
Key Duties
- Lead the delivery of a targeted three-month waiting list improvement programme.
- Provide day-to-day operational leadership and management support to practitioners working with adults awaiting allocation.
- Review people awaiting support, ensuring risk is appropriately assessed, managed and reviewed.
- Support social care practitioners to complete proportionate Care Act assessments, reducing unnecessary delay and duplication.
- Promote strengths-based practice and embed Waiting Well principles throughout the team's work.
- Work collaboratively with Community Mental Health Teams, Housing, Primary Care, voluntary organisations and wider system partners to identify opportunities for early intervention and prevention.
- Identify barriers preventing progression and work with practitioners and managers to resolve these.
- Ensure statutory responsibilities under the Care Act (2014), Mental Health Act (1983), Mental Capacity Act (2005) and safeguarding legislation are fulfilled.
- Monitor performance, waiting times and service activity, providing regular progress reports against agreed programme objectives.
- Contribute to the evaluation of the transformation programme, identifying learning and recommendations for future service development.
- Support the implementation of new operational processes designed to improve flow, efficiency and people's experience of Adult Mental Health Social Care.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
