THE OPPORTUNITY – PERMIT & ISOLATION COORDINATOR
The Permit to Work & Isolation Coordinator is responsible for the effective day-to-day management of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), ensures all work activities are safely planned, authorised, and executed in compliance with company procedures and Operating Integrity (OI) requirements. The role provides coordination and governance of permit-to-work and isolation processes, maintaining high standards of safety, control, and operational discipline.
The position chairs daily SSoW meetings, including verification and SIMOPS reviews, ensuring alignment of activities, clear communication of risks, and safe coordination of simultaneous operations. Acting as Issuing Authority, the role ensures that permits are robust, risk assessed, and correctly implemented.
The role is accountable for the preparation, control, and assurance of Isolation Control Certificates (ICCs), including audit and review of isolation integrity to prevent loss of containment events.
In addition, the role supports the Control of Work (CoW) Supervisor in delivering Operating Integrity (OI) requirements and holds ownership of P-Vision system governance, ensuring data accuracy, system compliance, and effective housekeeping.
Through strong coordination, assurance, and attention to detail, the Permit to Work & Isolation Coordinator ensures safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all work activities across the site.

Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Duration: 2-year contract
Contract Type: PAYE
Day Rate: TBC - For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation. Please note that there is no travel and accommodation allowance provided.
Shift: 9 day fortnight, 9 hours per day, 07:30 start time.

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…
In role, you will be responsible for:
- SSoW Management & Coordination
- Manage day-to-day SSoW processes.
- Chair daily verification and SIMOPS meetings.
- Ensure alignment of work activities and risk controls.
- Permit to Work Execution
- Act as Issuing Authority for permits. Ensure permits are robust, risk assessed, and compliant.
- Maintain high standards of permit quality and control.
- Isolation Control & ICC Governance
- Prepare and control Isolation Control Certificates (ICCs).
- Conduct LTI audits and isolation reviews.
- Ensure integrity of isolations and prevention of loss of containment.
- Operating Integrity (OI) Support
- Support CoW Supervisor in delivery of OI requirements.
- Ensure compliance with OI standards and procedures.
- Contribute to assurance and continuous improvement.
- SIMOPS & Risk Management
- Coordinate simultaneous operations to minimise risk.
- Ensure clear communication of hazards and controls.
- Intervene where conflicts or risks are identified.
- System Ownership & Governance (P-Vision)
- Own P-Vision system accuracy and housekeeping.
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with system requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date and reliable work control records.
- Compliance & Assurance
- Ensure adherence to SSoW and company procedures.
- Identify and address non-compliance.
- Support audits and assurance activities.
- Continuous Improvement & Discipline
- Drive improvements in CoW and permit processes.
- Promote operational discipline and best practice.
- Support lessons learned and system enhancements.
- Any other associated duties as reasonably required.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
- Demonstrable record in Health, Safety and Environment management, complying with legislation, with IOSH and other relevant competencies expected for the job role.
- Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process operations or maintenance.
- The inherent hazards of operating in this nature and the substances involved require the job holder to possess a thorough knowledge of procedures and the process systems to ensure the ongoing integrity of health, safety and environmental performance.
- Proven experience of and the ability to stimulate creativity, innovation and change culture, coach individuals and manage real change across a diverse workforce.
- The successful candidate will have practical experience and demonstrate a clear understanding of terminal process plant, specifically including the technologies used at the Barrow terminals.
- Technical knowledge and experience of the Permit to Work System.
- Qualifications:
- BTEC Ordinary Certificate or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
- An Engineering Apprenticeship with associated experience & qualifications (ONC or equivalent minimum) will ideally underpin the successful candidate’s credentials.
- Desirable, qualified to degree level or similar.
