This post is a 12 Month Fixed Term / Secondment position. As per the Fixed Term Contacts Policy - Where individuals with continuous service within the NHS apply for fixed-term contract roles, PSD Scotland reserves the right to refuse any such appointment.

On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

About The Organisation

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post

The postholder’s role and remit will include, but not be limited to, the following secretarial/administrative duties including to facilitate the support of the directorate and corporate initiatives. Provide secretarial support to the NSD Director to include organisation of meetings and events (diary management), preparation circulation of papers, minute taking, completion of reports, formatting of pre-typed documents, booking of meeting rooms etc.

  • Prioritising workload within deadlines, which are often tight.
  • Ensuring work is completed accurately and that records are up-to-date, accurate and accessible.
  • Ensuring that the work of the Director of NSD is produced accurately within the deadlines laid down by prioritisation and that in the absence of the Director, any matters arising are either dealt with personally by the postholder or passed on to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Dealing with urgent matters in the absence of the Director and ensuring that problems are resolved whether by way of telephone, correspondence, email to ensure the smooth running of the Directorate.
  • Acquiring a sound knowledge of high-level NHSScotland business and information issues in order to provide high-quality project/committee support.

Location and Working Pattern:

The role can be based at either Gyle Square (Edinburgh), Delta House (Glasgow) or National Distribution Centre (Larkhall).

Currently hybrid working, although regular travel to various sites will be required, therefore a full driving licence would be desirable.

Work pattern is Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week, between the hours of 08:00am and 17:00pm.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.
