Hours: 20 hours per week (overtime potential)
Wage: £14.05 per hour
Area: Backworth, North Tyneside
Role Overview:
To provide one-to-one support for a 33-year-old male with Autism/ADHD, in the home and community. Michael lives alone in rented accommodation with 24-hour support.
This is a permanent position and is for 20 hours per week, with the potential of overtime. Predominantly covering 2-1 staff ratio for high-risk events, with the potential of covering holiday, sickness, nightshift etc. 4 weeks training on the job provided. Shifts will be during the day, specific times to be discussed.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high levels of support and supervision to maintain Michael's safety.
- Monitor and limit Michael's use of electronic equipment.
- Motivate and closely monitor Michael to ensure his personal care needs are met.
- Respond to Michael's challenging behavior with patience, kindness, and a calm voice.
- Treat Michael with respect, dignity, and fairness.
- Remain calm under pressure and enforce rules in a non-confrontational way.
- Work in a home environment and be comfortable with possible visits from family members.

Profile of Michael:
- Diagnosis of Autism and ADHD.
- Displays characteristics of Tourette’s and Dyspraxia.
- History of self-harm and limited movement in his right hand/arm.
- Suffers from low mood and mental health issues.
- Responds well to spiritual therapies, such as reiki and meditation.
- Trained in Reiki 1 & 2.
- Passionate sense of faith and belief.
- Enjoys animals, especially his cat, and voluntary work at a local doggy daycare.
- Loves music and composing, with an interest in computing.
Required Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Experience of working with challenging behavior.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Experience of providing emotional support.
- Experience of assessing needs.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements.
- Ability to lone work and knowledge of professional boundaries.
- Flexible attitude.
- Proactive in developing ideas/projects for client.

Desirable:
- Experience of working within the autistic spectrum or ADHD.
- Support Work Qualification or Health and Social care.
- Previous experience of working as a support worker.
- Knowledge of local community.
Personal Skills:
- Enthusiasm and a sense of humour.
- Self-motivated and a willingness to get involved.
- Proven ability to work and act on own initiative.
- Reliable and flexible.
Additional Information:
- Enhanced DBS checks will be required if successful.
